The Rider: Tips for Your Next Big Event

Well hello 2013 – 2014!  I hope this finds you settling into the academic year having attended or sponsored at least one of the many amazing Welcome Week events!

During Welcome Week, I had the pleasure of working and attending the WRBB Block Party.  The group had a great chance to kick off the school year and end Welcome Week with their annual Block Party.  This year’s event featured A Great Big Pile of Leaves, The Front Bottoms, and YACHT.  On the day of the show, WRBB and their co-sponsors, Sigma Phi Epsilon, arrived at 7 AM to load-in and prep for the event.  For the first time in many years, we lucked out with beautiful weather and a great turnout!

All three bands were amazing both on and off stage, just check out the photos below!

This is just the first of many huge concerts and events planned this year. Keep your eyes and ears open for more live music and performances here at Northeastern.

Here are a couple quick tips that helped make this event was a success.  Keep these in mind when planning your next major event!

  • Don’t forget to secure a rain location for all outdoor events.
  • Communication is key!  Keep your co-sponsors as involved in the process as you are.
  • Tailor to your audience!  Think about what the student body would come out to see.
  • Need volunteers for your event?  This is a great way to involve your general body members who may have not been able to play a part in planning the actual event.

Check back next month for more event re-caps and tips for successful event planning!
