As Fall semester kicks into gear, the newly dubbed Career Development Office (formally Career Services) has over 125 programs for students. Most notably, the annual Fall Career Fair is scheduled for Thursday, October 3rd from 12 PM – 4 PM. With over 200 employers, Northeastern hosts the largest career fair in the northeast, drawing thousands of students.
Keep in mind the Career Fair is not just for Seniors, but rather, a networking opportunity for all students—a great way to gain valuable face time with employers for internships, co-ops, and full time positions. Seventy to eighty percent of all positions are found through word-of-mouth, so seize the opportunity to meet employers in Cabot Cage and learn more about specific organizations to give you an edge when applying.
Interested in social impact careers? The Non-Profit and Government Networking Night is set for Wednesday, October 9th from 5:30 PM – 7 PM in the Egan Engineering Science Research Center. Students will have the opportunity to choose an organization to meet with for a 20-minute question and answer session, and at the end of the session, they will move to another employer table for a total of four sessions. Non-profit and government jobs have a tendency to be competitive; that said, take advantage of the chance to differentiate yourself among other potential candidates and build your non-profit network.
Finally, Career Conversations is a unique employer panel series the Career Development Office offers, giving students the opportunity to learn about and ask questions surrounding various industries (are you sensing a theme here yet?). Career Conversations are held 12 PM – 1 PM on Wednesdays four to five times a semester—and yes, there is food (pizza to be exact). Career Conversations this semester include:
- 9/25: IT and Engineering Careers in Healthcare
- 10/9: Careers in Corporate Communications
- 10/23: Careers in Product Development, Design, Marketing and Management
- 11/13: Using Your Science Degree in Business
- 11/20: Careers in Social Entrepreneurship
